MYLO is a new
free online learning tool designed to get young people engaging
with languages in an innovative, creative and imaginative way.
Initially aimed at Key Stage 3, it engages learners both
independently and in the classroom through a range of activities
that have been designed to make languages more ‘real’. The
languages covered by the service are French, German, Spanish and
Mandarin.
The vision for MYLO is to help more young people
discover the relevance and value of languages by switching them on
to language learning and holding their interest. The service equips
teachers with varied, flexible, compelling new techniques to engage
learners in and out of the classroom.
MYLO
contains innovative online challenges for teenagers including
producing a TV advert, working in a French fashion house and
designing a football kit. With practice materials, online
dictionaries, phrase books, background information and plenty of
hints and tips, learners have everything they need to complete
tasks online.

MYLO student feature offers a glimpse of what teenagers think
of the resource.
Lightbox Education has been working with
leading language learning specialists to develop content and
promote the service. CILT is a key partner, along with Cambridge
University, ALL and the University of Salford.
