Making language learning more meaningful through the
development of intercultural understanding
This project focuses on developing meaningful links with other
subject departments in the secondary school and ensuring that
possible cross curricular links in the primary school are fully
exploited to develop pupils language skills and intercultural
understanding. Secondary schools have been given a framework
for evaluating and adapting their KS3 Scheme of Work in the light
of prior knowledge at KS2 and the new KS3 curriculum. Structure and
objectives of the project (doc, 47KB)
Impact
Primary schools can see how the
project will be developed in the secondary school and have a better
understanding of elements of the KS3 curriculum. Secondary schools
involved are starting to review and assess current provision and
changes that need to be made at KS3, and also developing a greater
awareness and understanding of the KS2 Framework for MFL.
Secondary schools will have a document for Year 7 pupils that
were involved in the project celebrating their language learning in
the primary school. This will be transferred to the secondary
school as hard copy or electronically as many pupils will complete
powerpoint projects. Please see a powerpoint example prepared in
French
(ppt, 431KB) and German
(ppt, 245Kb) as well as an example of Language
Learner Profile (ppt, 235Kb). Read more about this project
