Slide from La Musique presentation to support oral activities. Available to download from Resources.The intercultural understanding substrand 3.1 Appreciating cultural diversity was the focus for this project. There are three objectives for this substrand, one per year, as follows:

  • Year 7: Investigate an aspect of life and compare with their own, noting similarities and differences.
  • Year 8: Identify and explain an aspect of life that has changed over time.
  • Year 9: Develop and communicate an in-depth understanding of an aspect of culture that they have identified and researched.

As pupils had not had much experience of learning in this strand we focused on the year 7 and year 8 objectives initially. The focus group was again a year 9 group most of whom had opted not to continue with French. It was decided that this group were a particularly challenging group and that if the project could motivate them this would indeed be proof that the context was engaging.
