Are you interested in teaching modern languages but are finding it hard to gain a place on initial teacher training because you don't have a second teaching language?
Pre-initial teacher training modern languages Extension Courses are of approximately three months’ duration, full time and intensive. Courses are specifically designed to help graduates with one teaching language develop a second language to teach up to Key Stage 3 (pupils aged 11-14). Course participants will be paid a bursary of £225 per week for 13 weeks whilst on the course.
On completion, you will be expected to undertake initial teacher training on a secondary modern languages course leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Further details:
- Extension courses are suitable for graduates with one foreign language but little or no French or German.
- Courses start in May 2008.
- They are 14 week, full time, taught courses with a high level of individual support and the opportunity to work in small groups.
- There are up to twenty-five places on each course.
- Participants will receive a bursary of £225 per week.
- Participants will undertake a two-week structured study visit to a French or German speaking country, with travel and expenses paid.
- Participants with no prior experience of the language will receive extra tuition and support.
