Tuition fees

For 2008 course entry ITT providers in England can charge trainee teachers on postgraduate ITT courses variable tuition fees of up to £3,145 a year.

Many ITT providers that want to charge you the full tuition fee will give you a grant of approximately £300 towards this fee.

The Student Loans Company allows students to take out a separate loan to cover these tuition fees. Students do not have to repay the tuition fee loan until they have completed their ITT course and have obtained a position with a salary of more than £15,000 a year.

Training Bursary

PGCE trainees* of Modern Foreign Languages in England also receive a non-taxable training bursary of £9000 during their training year.

Golden Hello

If you complete a postgraduate ITT course in MFL and take up a Newly Qualified Teacher position teaching this subject in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in England, you may be eligible to receive a one-off taxable payment of £2500 after successfully completing your induction period.

GTP/RTP Salary

Trainees on the GTP/RTP are employed by their training school and receive the monthly salary of an unqualified teacher, which is a minimum of £14,751 per annum depending on responsibilities, experience and location. Graduate teachers are not eligible for the Golden Hello.
