All applicants must:
- be a native speaker of French, German,
Italian, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese
(putonghua, hua wen or
guo yu). If you are
genuinely bilingual in one of these languages, you are
eligible to apply. If you have studied one of these languages up to
a high level but are not a mother tongue speaker, you are not
eligible.
- have a university level qualification equivalent to a UK
Bachelor’s degree (Contact UK NARIC if you are not sure if
your qualification is acceptable.)
- not already be qualified
to teach in state-funded schools either in the UK or another
country in the EU/European Economic
Area/Switzerland
- have an excellent command of written and
spoken English
- have the equivalent
of GCSE (grade A* - C) in maths or be willing
to take an equivalent test if
short-listed
- have the
legal right to work in the UK. (Please note that
participation in the CILT Languages GTP is not sufficient to
qualify you for a working visa. See FAQs for further information.)
- have experience of teaching or
working with groups of young people aged 11-16
- have a minimum of 2-3 weeks' experience of UK secondary
schools. This may be through classroom visits,
voluntary work or paid employment.
- have done their own secondary education outside the UK and in a
non-UK education system
- be willing to commit to staying in
England for at least 2 years from September 2012
In addition:
Applicants to the GTP for
German/Italian/Spanish must:
- know French to elementary level or
higher
Applicants to the GTP for
Italian must:
- have a school that is willing to host their GTP
training year
