"I would definitely recommend the CILT GTP to all native speakers - you’re really well supported by very experienced tutors who are really helpful… and I’ve made some great friends!"
- Former CILT GTP Trainee.

Why choose the CILT Languages GTP?

  • You are based in school all year so you get lots of valuable school-based experience
  • You have regular training sessions both at school and at CILT Day Schools
  • You are employed by your school for a year and get paid a salary of £15,817 - £19,893*, depending on location

  • You can apply to train in a school where you have worked on a paid/voluntary basis (for example as foreign language assistant), or you can apply to be selected by a school within our partnership network
  • You are supported by an experienced language teacher at your training school (your mentor), as well as by an experienced teacher trainer at CILT (your tutor)
  • You have access to CILT's wide range of resource materials and extensive expertise as the National Centre for Languages
  • You are awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to teach Key Stage 3 and 4 (11 to 16-year olds) on successful completion of the programme
  • Trainees on the GTP for mother-tongue speakers of French, German, Italian and Spanish will be supported to develop their teaching in another language in addition to their mother tongue
