Trainees are employed by their training school as a
supernumerary member of staff on a one-year, unqualified teacher’s
contract.
The Training and Development
Agency for Schools (TDA) pays a salary grant as a
contribution towards the cost of the graduate teacher's
salary. CfBT (CILT's parent organisation) pays the salary
grant to training schools in three tranches over the course of the
training year. The amount of the salary grant payment
is set by the TDA, and varies according to the location
of the school.
For 2011-12 the GTP salary grant is:
- Inner London boroughs: £17,000
- Outer London boroughs: £16,000
- London fringe area: £14,400
- National: £13,500
These amounts are expected to be the same for 2012-13.

Agreement.
